DIVERSIONS will be in place as work to prolong the life of a motorway bridge starts today.
Some road closures will be in operation while work is completed to repair the Barrel Lane footbridge which crosses the A1(M) near Junction 36, Warmsworth.
The footbridge will be closed to pedestrians who will be diverted via Warmsworth Interchange.
Off peak road closures will be in force between 8pm and 6am along the A1 running under the bridge and the junction 36 skip roads.
When the carriageway is closed traffic will be diverted off the A1 at Warmsworth.
When the northbound exit slip road of the A1 is closed, traffic will have to continue to Junction 37, Marr, then travel back on the southbound carriageway exiting junction 36 via the southbound slip road.
The reverse system will be in operation when the southbound exit slip is closed at junction 36. Diversion signs will be in operation.
Tim Calvert, project manager for the Highways Agency said: "We will be working round the clock to finish this work as soon as possible. We would ask all road users to take extra care when travelling through the roadworks."
