A MAN has died following an incident involving a taxi in Doncaster.

Police released only sketchy details about the incident, which partially closed St George’s Bridge for around nine hours while they carried out investigations at the scene.

The man, named locally as Robert Dowling, 27, from Carcroft, was a passenger in a taxi travelling over the A19 St George’s Bridge in the early hours of Wednesday morning when he sustained head injuries.

Police say he died shortly afterwards in Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

No further details of how he came to be injured were released.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident and are in custody assisting police with inquiries.
