Dearne residents are being encouraged to support a funding bid to extend a railway in part of the area.
Project bosses at the Elsecar Heritage Railway are seeking £50,000 from the Biffa Award scheme to extend the track from Elsecar Heritage Centre to Cortonwood.
Their application has successfully made it to the second round of bids and they are appealing for people to help them secure the money by writing letters of support.
William Tilling, 63, chairman of the Elsecar Heritage Railway, said: “We have made it past the first round but need to show that there is public backing for the project for the second round.
“Please help us by writing letters in. This is a great project for the community.”
Part of the extended track has already been laid using other funding sources.
If their latest bid is successful, the money will be used to help build a station at Cortonwood Retail Park, along with a picnic area and children’s play area. It is hoped the railway will open in late 2014.
People can email in with messages of support to firstname.lastname@example.org before July 14.
