More than three quarters of a mile of rail track has been stolen from a railway line in Tickhill, Doncaster.
Officers investigating the theft believe the rail was taken in the two weeks leading up to Christmas from the Harworth Collieries branch rail line, close to Crooked Lane Head.
Detective Constable Ian Grice, of BTP's dedicated cable team Operation Drum, said the theft was discovered on December 26.
DC Grice said: "After the discovery, officers attended the scene and found that 1 , 400 yards of rail weighing around 70 tonnes had been taken from the area. Anyone with information can contact 0800 40 50 40 quoting B8/NEA of January 10 or CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
