Rail firm First TransPennine Express was on track to help a local green group with a cash grant.

The company joined forces with the Forestry Commission to give Fishlake’s Monday Club, originally set up to improve the environment around Fishlake, with £835.

The cash will be used to help with the rejuvenation of the Old Course of the River Don and will fund the creation of a woodland area which they hope will lead to the return of reed warblers, kingfishers, marsh harriers and bearded tits.

Volunteer Rowland Sheppard said: “We are overwhelmed by the support from First TransPennine Express.”
