Queen legend Brian May and Musical Rock goddess Kerry Ellis are taking Anthems The Tour, on the road across the UK and are set to rock Sheffield City Hall on Friday May 6 2011.
Anthems The Tour features a unique fusion of rock and musical theatre anthems from shows such as Wicked, Chess and We Will Rock You. The Queen guitarist and composer Brian May will perform new arrangements of a selection of the favourite songs he has specially chosen to be performed by Kerry and will accompany her on guitar and vocals.
The tour follows a series of acclaimed performances by Kerry & Brian. Since stealing the show when they performed together on the Royal Variety Show in 2008, they have also performed at BBC Proms in the Park and at last year’s The Night of 1000 Voices. Most recently, they opened the Remembrance Day concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
The tour follows the release of Kerry and Brian’s single Defying Gravity which was released last week and is both the lead track from the musical, Wicked, and a standout song on Kerry’s debut album, Anthems.
Singer and actress, Kerry, has garnered a reputation as one of the West End and Broadway’s leading female stars having performed in the likes of Wicked, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Oliver! and We Will Rock You, the latter of which is where she of course met Brian.
On touring with Kerry, Brian May says“Kerry Ellis is now acknowledged as a phenomenon, equally at home in Musical Theatre and Rock.
I was convinced from the moment we worked together on We Will Rock You nine years ago, that she was destined to be a worldwide star. The challenge was to develop songs and arrangements to allow that amazing voice to reach its true potential.”
Support on the tour comes in the form of four-man US group Vintage Trouble, who draw on the sounds of the 50s and 60s to deliver classic soul, blues and rock ‘n’ roll.
