Musical culture is a top priority subject at one Denaby school, where pupils enjoy live performances on a regular basis.

Visitors who have filled Saint Alban’s Catholic Primary School with the sound of music include bagpiper Ed Arnold for St Andrew’s day, harpist Liath Hollins on St David’s day, flautist Andy Cahill for St Patrick’s day and Markham Main Brass Band on St George’s day.

Headteacher Jo Ayres said: “All children should have the opportunity to learn about, take part in and enjoy the cultural life of our country. Music helps pupils understand themselves, relate to others and develop their cultural understanding.” Performers also talked to pupils about their work.
