AROUND 500 residents were evacuated after a large rubbish fire got out of control.

Four fire engines remained at the site in Stainforth on Saturday night after the fire spread to a shed and adjacent building.

Several cylinders, including an acetylene cylinder, were discovered at the Brunswick Square site and firefighters and police established 200m exclusion zone around the incident as a precautionary measure.

About 500 residents were evacuated from their homes overnight but most were allowed to return earlier this morning.

Crews from Doncaster, Edlington and Thorne fire stations were called to the incident just before 9pm on Friday evening.

No one is believed to have been injured in the fire and an investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire.
