MUM of five Nikki Ford has had her fair share of pregnancy experience, and now she is using her knowledge to help women with a yoga class.

Nikki, who runs the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) yoga pregnancy class, is encouraging pregnant women to bend and stretch their way to a more relaxed and enjoyable nine months.

NCT trainer Nikki, 49, of Hatfield, said: “I would just say to women come along and give it a try. Sometimes the word yoga scares people but it’s really gentle and a lovely way to meet other women.

“People build up really good friendships through the group and the ladies who come often say they have the best night’s sleep after one of my classes because they are so relaxed.”

The classes focus on gentle postures, breathing techniques, positions for labour and relaxation.

One of the aims is to help women feel more confident about giving birth.

Nikki also gives pregnancy advice at the end of the sessions.

And the classes have been given the celebrity seal of approval with “yummy mummies” including model Miranda Kerr and actress January Jones striking a yoga pose. Nikki, mum to Lewis, 21, Oliver, 19, Edward 14, Eloise 11 and six-year-old Imogen got involved with the NCT after having Lewis.

Nikki said: “I really enjoyed the classes and I just started to get more involved and before I knew it I was doing it as a full time job.”

The classes are on Thursday 7pm to 8.30pm at Trafford Court, next to Doncaster railway station. Sessions are £6.

Payment plans for parents on benefits are available.
