DONCASTER was getting back to normal today after a powercut affected 30,000 homes and businesses - bringing the region to a standstill.
Power had been restored to all properties affected by mid-afetrnoon.
The problem was caused by a high voltage fault in the network at a substation in the Greyfriars Road area. Engineers are still investigating the cause.
In the town centre, shops closed, bank machines stopped working and traffic lights shut down, causing chaos on the roads.
Other areas affected included Town Moor, Bentley and Bennetthorpe.
“Our priority was to get everyone back on as soon as possible,” said a spokesman for Yorkshire Electrician Distribution. “We were on site within 25 minutes and tried remotely switching the power from our control centre but that had limited success so the crews had to restore power on site.
