Police warning over spate of burglaries

MEXBOROUGH Police are warning residents to make sure their homes and vehicles are safe and secure following a spate of burglaries in the town.

Officers at the Partners And Communities Together (PACT) meeting last week said burglars had gained entry to eight houses through unsecure doors and windows in the last month.

Acting Sergeant Rob Scarrow, of the Mexborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, said such incidents are a problem each year, especially in spring and summer.

He said: “We would urge residents to make sure their doors and windows are kept secure.

“We would also say don’t leave any valuables on display in front of windows for opportunist thieves to see.

“That includes in your home and in vehicles. Don’t make it easy for criminals.”
