This is the fire damaged car which caused the partial closure of the M1 near Sheffield yesterday.

South Yorkshire Police closed the southbound stretch of the motorway between junction 33 at Catcliffe and junction 32 at Thurcroft yesterday after a car pulling a caravan went up in flames.

Traffic on the northbound carriageway was also affected because of smoke billowing across the road.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Working with Highways England and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue we had to close the motorway at Junction 32.

"A vehicle had caught fire and was obviously going to cause some disruption.

"To make the road safe for you, and for us to work safely, the road was closed while the Fire and Rescue team did their thing and put it out.

"No one was injured and I even believe the caravan survived.

"Apologies for the delay in your journey. We always try to get the roads re-open as soon as possible."
