NEARLY 40 vehicles have been checked as part of a police crackdown against metal thieves.
Neighbourhood officers from Stainforth teamed up with Vehicle Operator Services Agency to stop 36 scrap metal carriers and trade type vehicles.
Of those stopped two were barred from the roads for being unroadworthy, and several owners received notices demanding they fix defects on their vehicles.
The owner of a Ford Transit van, suspected of fly tipping and poaching will be monitored. They also received notice to produce a valid MOT certificate.
Council workers reported two people for not having a carrier’s licence and one person was investigated for working whilst claiming benefits.
More events like these are being organised for the coming months.
PC Sarah Barrowcliffe said: “This was a successful operation with some good results.”
