Home is where the heart is - and that’s been the case after 60 years in the same place for one couple

Fred and Marian Cox were the first people to move into Cantley estate when they got the keys for their three bedroomed, semi-detached house in Ascot Avenue on September 3, 1951.

And they loved the house and the friendly area so much that they’ve stayed put ever since.

Retired bakery worker Fred, 87, said: “We were the first ones to move to the estate. We’ve been happy here ever since. We can’t imagine living anywhere else. Our whole lives are here.”

The couple moved in with children, Brenda, three, and Sandra, one. They went on to have two more children, Maureen and Brian, the first twins to be born on the estate. They now have nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Marian, 84, a retired school cook, added: “It gets very crowded when all the family comes to visit.”
