A COPS and robbers fun day at a Doncaster social centre had to make do without the real cops...
Doh handlers and officers from the South Yorkshire Police firearms unit had been booked to make an appearance at the event at Hayfield Social Education Centre in Auckley earlier this week.
But they had to pull out because of the levels of civil unrest across England.
Although there has been no rioting in Doncaster or elsewhere in South Yorkshire, senior officers wanted to keep the officers on standby in case they were needed here or elsewhere.
Despite the professionals’ absence, about 200 people turned up for the day and enjoyed games such as ‘name the teddy crook’ and ‘find the loot’.
Centre manager Sharon Toothill said: “It went extremely well and our total profit was £900.
“It made people in the local community more aware of what we do for the 100 people who attend the centre.”
