A potential near disaster was averted on Saturday when a light aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing.

The plane, thought to have a possible landing defect, managed to land safely on the access road to the disused airfield at Sandtoft, at 12.38pm.

Crews from Humberside Fire Service stood by as a precaution after being notified of the landing, but in the event were not needed.
