A string of beauty queens went head to head on the catwalk in a bid to be crowned Miss Sheffield.

Girls from across the region took part in the Miss Genting Sheffield event at the city's Genting Casino yesterday - with teenage gymnast Georgia Blades Richardson emerging triumphant to secure a place in the final of Miss England.

Eight contestants took part in a series of rounds, hosted by reigning Miss England Elizabeth Grant with Sheffield law student Grace Hardy, 19, taking runners-up spot and Jen Adkin, 23, grabbing third place.

Georgia, 18, from Nottinghamshire, saw off the challenge of her rivals in rounds which included an eco fashion parade, eveningwear round and final interview.

The event was supported by local businesses including Sheffield based salon Beauty Beneath who provided a make up and hair team backstage for all the contestants.

Kathy Greetham, founder of Sheffield based model agency DK Models was one of the judges on the panel along with Kath Barton, general manager of Genting Casino Sheffield .

The competition raised over £500 for Beauty with a Purpose the charity which aids disadvantaged children and youngsters .

The Miss World charity recently funded a sensory room at Landmarks College in Eckington last year for youngsters with autism and special needs which cost £25,000 .

In the lead up to the contest , the girls where invited to raise funds and create an outfit made from recycled materials with a "Lady in Red" theme .

And former Miss South Yorkshire Stephanie Hill, a Sheffield trainee radiographer was invited to entertain the guests at the event with an amazing singing performance .

General manager Kath Barton said: “We are delighted Georgia will now represent Genting Sheffield in the Miss England competition and will be invited to special events at the casino."

The Miss England final is due to take place at The Vox Conference Centre, Resorts World Birmingham from 12 – 14 July which will form the nation's only entry to Miss World .
