People told to contact Trading Standards after complaints about Doncaster back street mechanic

Upset customers of a Doncaster back street car mechanic have been urged to contact Trading Standards after complaints about his business dealings.

A string of upset motorists have lodged complaints about Steven Kilcoyne, a mechanic who operates out of his own garage in Alexandra Road, Balby.

Mr Kilcoyne has been accused of shoddy vehicle repairs and for taking cash for repairs which were not carried out.

One upset motorist said: “He has done a lot of people over.

"Around 25 people say they have had similar experiences and we understand he’s working illegally from that location.

“He has cars parked up in the street and he works on them out on road. There's always quite a few cars there.”

“All I've had is insults from him through Facebook messenger and not one word about a refund.

"I know I probably won't get any money back - I just want to make sure he doesn't do it anymore. Some people have been left in dangerous situations or left in large amounts of debt all because they chose him to do the work."

South Yorkshire Police said they were aware of complaints about Mr Kilcoyne but the incident was a civil matter.

A spokesperson for City of Doncaster Council said: “The business in question is not under any formal investigation.

"If residents do have concerns about the operations of a business anywhere in Doncaster, they can report these to the council’s Trading Standards team through the Citizen Advice consumer service.”

In response, in a brief written reply, Mr Kilcoyne said: “There is two side (sic) to every storie (sic) and the fact I am not will (sic) to explain my side on social media, not some thing I believe to be the right thing to do and as an (sic) note to the is if (sic) one person has a problem with me yet other seem to have the same thing to me sounds like a witch hunt because not one other person has put a post on social media in the past my rating where exalent (sic) so to me just everyone jumping on the bandwagon wagon.”
