Rotherham Council has issued a warning for people to avoid a suburb in the town after a huge blaze broke out earlier today.
A fire involving around 500 tonnes of plastic was discovered at Universal Recycling in Wharf Road, Kilnhurst, at 10am today.
There are seven fire engines at the scene and a specialist high volume water pump drenching the flames.
Residents have been urged to keep their doors and windows closed because of the amount of thick, black smoke billowing from the recycling centre.
Police officers called at nearby homes to check on the welfare of residents.
