Outdoor ice rink opens to public in Doncaster

Young and old, amateur and professional can have festive fun dancing on ice with the opening of Doncaster’s first ever outdoor rink.

The rink, outside Cast theatre at Waterdale, will have instructors from the Dome on hand to assist first time skaters and to help those a little more confident, from today, November 18, to January 3, 2016.

Opening times are Monday to Wednesday, 9.30am to 7.15pm and Thursday to Sunday, 9.30am to 8.15pm.

The grand opening included a routine to the song ‘Mr Sandman’ by 10-year-old skating competitor, Amelia Stephenson, of Doncaster, who was cheered on by her mum Sarah, 35, her dad, Tim, 39, brother Alfie, nine and twin younger brothers Finley and Sam, six.

Amelia said: “My heart was racing as I performed in front of everyone. It was exciting very enjoyable.”

Her mum, Sarah added: “I think its fantastic for the town. I feel that from now on it should be an annual thing – It’s great fun for the family.”

Adrian Hill, 57, of Craithie Road, Town Moor, who only took up skating at the age of 50, said: “I think this is wonderful for the people of Doncaster. It’s great that this is right on our doorstep.”
