A Balby schoolgirl fought off competition from dozens of musicians to win a place on the prestigious National Youth Orchestra.
Balby Carr Community Academy pupil Sophie Bell, of Hall Flat Lane, Balby, is one of only eight young musicians across Yorkshire to have won a place in the orchestra this year, which will see the group of 165 teenagers perform at venues up and down the country.
The music-mad 15 year-old plays the saxophone, piano, clarinet and the french horn - which Sophie auditioned with to win her place.
Sophie says she chose the french horn to audition with because it’s her ‘baby’.
She added: “I’m excited to play with all of the other musicians, and to get the opportunity to travel the country and perform in some incredible venues. My parents think it’s great, I think they’re more excited for me than I am! I’ve been going to the Doncaster Music Education Hub for the last eight years, and they’ve been so amazing. This opportunity would not have been possible without them.”
Sophie’s first performance with the National Youth Orchestra takes place at Leeds Town Hall on January 4.
