Residents are being invited to have a look around Doncaster’s iconic Mansion House later this week as part of the town’s heritage festival.
The open day event, between 10am and 2pm on Friday May 6, is being organised by Friends of the Mansion House. Several members of the group will be wearing Victorian costumes and pianist Brian Limb will provide entertainment.
Margaret Herbert, of Friends of the Mansion House, said: “We really need to push the Mansion House now it has had such a wonderful restoration. We need to get people using it and booking it for their events.
“That’s why we are holding this open day, so people can come and see this beautiful building for themselves.
“It’s a big part of Doncaster’s history. There’s one three Mansion Houses in the country, and I think it’s the best one.
“Brian is really something, he can play absolutely anything. I saw him in the Frenchgate centre a few weeks ago and asked him if he would play for us. People were asking him to play different songs and he just did it. He’ll be playing for between an hour and a half and two hours on the day.
“We decided to dress up as it will get people’s attention, it’s an attraction. They’ll be at least four or five of us in costume. I’ll be wearing a big head dress with feathers in and a black dress
“Everyone is welcome. We hope the sun will shine and we will draw in a good crowd.”
