Only call 999 in emergency

PEOPLE who call 999 for toothache or problems with a contact lens could be blocking vital help to an emergency case.

Inappropriate calls are received by South Yorkshire’s emergency ambulance service every day, but winter is a challenging time that brings increased pressures.

The message is to think twice before picking up the ‘phone - could that call be made to a GP, a minor injuries unit or the NHS Direct service?

The trust’s chief executive David Whiting has urged callers to keep emergency help lines for emergencies only.
