OLYMPIC torchbearer Dave Allemby will run one more marathon before his big day on June 25.
The representative of Wombwell Sporting and Athletics Club was thrilled to be chosen as a torchbearer, and delighted that sponsors Coca-Cola will fund his £199 torch.
Dad-of-one Dave, who suffers from vitiligo and will run with his torch through Lundwood on Vitiligo Awareness Day said: “I have one more marathon to do, at Windermere on May 20. Then I’ll be concentrating on the Olympics.”
Yesterday, Wombwell hosted a Try Athletics Day to encourage everyone in the community to have a go at sport, and to mark 100 days until the 2012 Olympic Games.
It was part of a nationwide campaign, promoted by England Athletics to encourage people to help support their local club as either volunteers or participants.
But if you missed it, it’s not too late to get involved....telephone the club on 01226 754865 for details of meetings and events. The chairman of Wombwell Sporting Athletics Club, Scott Wilson, is currently undertaking a challenge to run 12 marathons within 12 months.
