One Direction singer lines up new smash hit

DONCASTER pop sensation Louis Tomlinson is set for another starring role as patron of South Yorkshire’s Bluebell Wood hospice.

The Bessacarr-born One Direction singer, aged 20, who is more used to dealing with thousands of screaming fans across the globe, is to help terminally-ill youngsters just a stone’s throw from his South Yorkshire hometown.

He will join fellow Yorkshire singer Ed Sheeran as patron of the Dinnington-based hospice which cares for more than 150 children with a limited life expectancy.

Said Louis: “It was really important for me to support a local charity. Bluebell Wood is such a great cause and I’m very proud to be able to help them with raising funds.”

Louis and his One Direction band mates first visited the hospice last year while taking part in the X Factor tour.

They were touched by the stories of the children they met there.

A hospice spokesman said: “To say we’re excited is just a little bit of an understatement. “We’re actually colossally overjoyed to announce that none other than Louis Tomlinson has agreed to become a patron for Bluebell Wood.”

The impact of Louis’ support is already beginning to show its magnitude - since tweeting about his alliance with Bluebell Wood the number of followers on the hospice’s twitter site has gone through the roof.

Sarah Champion, chief executive of Bluebell Wood, added: “We’re absolutely thrilled that Louis has agreed to become one of our patrons and it’s fabulous to see him supporting a local charity.

“It costs £3 million per year to offer our service and we currently receive no statutory government funding. Without the help of supporters like Louis we simply couldn’t help the children that we do.” Next month Louis will show his backing for the hospice when he takes part in a charity football match at the Keepmoat Stadium against a Doncaster Rovers XI. Football-mad Louis will be joining his old pub side The Three Horseshoes for the game on October 22 with the proceeds going to Bluebell Wood.
