Ofsted joy for Rotherham school

A school that faced possible closure last year has undergone complete change and been praised by Ofsted inspectors who judge it now as a '˜good' school.

Headteacher Luci Windle received particular praise following the inspection of Abbey Special School in Kimberworth. The ensuing report said she “led the school from inadequate to good with relentless determination.”

The Head fostered a team approach of which staff are rightly proud, said the report. It continued; ‘Morale is high and staff go the extra mile because they put pupils at the heart of everything.’

Good teaching, it said, is due to targeted training; good teacher assessments and planning; good progress in key stages in English and Maths; pupils’ behaviour being improved because it is well managed and the school having good links with parents.

Headteacher Mrs Windle said: “Without a vision, without a team, things cannot move forward. At Abbey our children and young people are at the heart of our vision, ethos and values. We are now a school that inspires our pupils and families to believe in themselves which allows them to achieve their full potential.” Abbey School has joined with two other special schools to establish Nexus Multi Academy Trust.
