Sixty people turned up at Potteric Carr nature reserve to build their own bird boxes for the Spring nesting season.
Despite the chilly temperatures, young and old wanted to help their feathered friends by making homes for them to take away and put up in their own local green space, or their own garden.
Visitors also had a go at making some feeders meaning there will some very well looked after birds in Doncaster for the reminder of the winter.
Kate Nixon, mother of two regular visitors to Potteric Carr, said: “It was great to get involved and give something back to nature – it was an event that all the family could enjoy together.”
Event leader Kat Woolley said: “It is heartening to see just how many people care about looking after our wild birds. To top off the day, a bittern, a rare and endangered species, flew right above us during the event.”
