A CHANGE of date has been announced for the next Doncaster Pride event.

The Pride committee has decided to bring forward its summer festival which will now take place on Saturday, June 29.

The event, which celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, attracts thousands of people to the borough each year.

A spokesman for Doncaster Pride said the reason to cancel its previous July 6 date and bring it forward a week was because of other similar events taking place.

The spokesman said: “Our close neighbours Sheffield Pride have informed us of their decision to hold their event on July 6 and we feel having the two events on the same date would be a mistake for both Prides and the LGBT community of South Yorkshire.”

The June event will take place at the same venue, The Keepmoat Stadium.

Further details are to be announced.

The committee is also gearing up to host its first ever ‘Winter Pride’ which will be held at Crystals pub in the town centre’s Market Place on the weekend of February 2 and 3.

It will be the first ever time the borough has held two Pride festivals in the same year. For more information, visit www.doncasterpride.co.uk
