After 17 years as a Doncaster MP, people still ask what an MP actually does.
From clips on television you might think we spend our week heckling each other across the House of Commons Chamber - most of us don’t.
Some people still think I live in London because I’m a member of parliament - but I don’t.
So, like the 12 days of Christmas, I thought I would try to give you my year in numbers.
Three is the number of staff in my constituency office.
And 2.5 is the number who help me with my parliamentary and Shadow Cabinet role in Westminster.
5,000 is the number of people who contacted my office for help since 2010, a total which was reached earlier this year.
70 journeys between London and Doncaster.
As I live in Sprotbrough that’s a return journey every week, parliament is sitting and some when it’s not.
When Parliament’s sitting, between Monday and Thursday I’m in Westminster, so local visits and meetings happen on Fridays and weekends.
In 2014, that included: 11 school visits, 13 businesses, 17 with police, council, NHS and other service providers; 35 community groups or events, such as Conisbrough Castle, Thorne CAB, Riding for the Disabled, Auckley Show, Edlington Gala, Martinwells Lake.
77 is the number of surgeries held this year, and 350 held since the last election.
In 1997, I promised to hold regular surgeries; I hold one in every ward, every month, except august, that’s about 1,190 held since I became an MP.
220 is the number of Don Valley residents who’ve visited the House of Commons.
To arrange a visit, check out my website www.carolineflint.org
71 per cent is the number of votes, known as divisions, I’ve taken part in.
It’s not 100 per cent, because some votes take place on Fridays, so unless it’s a big issue, I’ll be in Doncaster.
A few weeks ago, I stayed in Westminster to vote for a new NHS Bill to scrap government rules that are forcing the NHS to put services out to competition.
That battle isn’t over.
And what about you.
Don Valley stretches from Old Denaby across to Austerfield and up to Thorne in the north east of the borough.
The number of sessions calling on residents so far is 61 across 20 towns and villages this year.
That’s my year in numbers.
If you have a problem – the number you need to call is 01302 623330 for my constituency office.
Also visit www.carolineflint.org for more information about constituency matters and to see where and when my surgeries are.
Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year.
