Wombwell MP Michael Dugher has called for the introduction of measures to tackle ‘rip-off’ energy bills to help squeezed households facing a cost of living crisis in the Dearne.
Mr Dugher claimed that since the government came to power in 2010 energy bills have soared by over £300.
The Labour MP has called for Ofgem to be abolished and replaced with a new energy watchdog with the power to force energy suppliers to pass on price cuts when the cost of wholesale energy falls.
He also wants to see energy companies put all over-75s on their cheapest tariff helping those benefiting to save up to £200 per year.
Mr Dugher said: “People in Barnsley need to see measures and policies introduced that will make a real difference.”
