A MICRO-BREWERY is targeting taking on the real ale industry’s big boys after announcing expansion plans.

Mark Lickley has taken over the running of Thorne Brewery with the firm now hoping to expand its presence across Yorkshire.

The company, which began brewing in June 2009, is hoping to expand it base at Thorne Enterprise Park and start bottling its products.

It is hoped the plans will see a number of new jobs created for people living in the area,

Mr Lickley said: “This is a fresh start for Thorne Brewery with a new owner and new company, but still building on our previous successes.

“In the last couple of years we have definitely established ourselves in this area. For a while we are going to carry on doing that.

“There are aims to spread our range further into the Yorkshire area.”

The ambitious plans, which it is hoped will create about a dozen jobs, will also see the company based in King Edward Road expand its range.

Its new bottling base is expected to open later this year.

Over the last two years the firm has provided real ales to thirsty customers across Yorkshire.

Ginger and nettle beers are now to be rolled out as interesting alternatives as part of the re-launch.

Mr Richards added: “We aim to expand into the bottled beer market later in the year and create new jobs in manufacturing and distribution.

“We want to expand on our existing brands with new products, including some exciting flavours.”
