A PUBLIC meeting is being held on Saturday where people can show their support for the campaign to save a hospital heart unit.

Arranged by the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF), the meeting will be held at The Earl of Doncaster, in Bennetthorpe, and start at 11am.

There will be speakers at the meeting, including surgeons and parents of current and former patients, who will talk about the decision and the effect plans to close the unit in Leeds would have on patients in Doncaster.

Campaign group Save Our Surgery (SOS) is hoping that “parent power” will force the Government to rethink the closure of the unit at Leeds General Infirmary.

A petition, backed by Moorends-mum Kerry Singleton, whose daughter Sienna underwent life-saving surgery in Leeds in 2008, has already been signed by around 130,000 people.

People wanting to attend can register by emailing ch.sf@leedsth.nhs.uk or calling 0113 392 5907.
