DISCUSSIONS have begun on how to spend Selby’s £445,000 windfall new homes bonus.
Selby District Council was awarded the money as part of an incentive to local authorities to build new homes in their areas. The amount given is based on the council tax value of each new property built.
Tuesday’s meeting of SDC’s scrutiny committee discussed how the cash could be allocated across the district.
Scrutiny chairman, Labour councillor Wendy Nichols, said: “We discussed giving every council ward an equal share of the money or spending all the cash on one big project for the whole of the district. However, I feel we should look at the areas where the new homes were built, see what their needs are and spend the money there.”
