MARKETS at Goldthorpe, Wombwell and Hoyland will close on Tuesday, June 5, after traders voted to take the day off and celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Market stall holders in Barnsley town centre, Goldthorpe, Hoyland and Wombwell were all balloted over the issue.
The ballot was undertaken with the full support of the National Market Traders’ Federation to enable businesses to make their own decisions.
The response was very strongly in favour of closing for the day.
But the June 6 Wednesday markets will continue to open as normal.
