Margaret and Lola lead by example

Councillor Cynthia Ransome and Pets at Home Store Manager Peter Watson present Margaret Smith and Lola with their hamper of doggy treats.

Margaret Smith from Dunscroft scooped a doggy hamper full of treats for Lola after being a responsible dog owner.

Council officers entered her for the council’s responsible dog owner scheme when they saw that she had the means to pick up after Lola during one of the pair’s walks.

The scheme is intended to support work to combat the problem of dog fouling in public places by rewarding dog owners who are responsible and clean up after their faithful friends without fail.

Margaret said: “It was a lovely surprise to be thanked for doing something I don’t think twice about and Lola will really enjoy the hamper.

“I always pick up after our walks because it is so inconsiderate to leave unpleasant dog mess for other people to step in - it only takes a couple of seconds to pick it up with a bag, tie a knot in it and find a bin.”
