Over 50s in Doncaster are being urged to help tackle loneliness by attending an information fair in the town.

Subjects as diverse as safe scootering and benefits advice will be on offer at the Action Against Loneliness Information Fair on October 17, where Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT) will be on hand to offer health check taster sessions.

The free event will see DCLT joined by representatives from organisations including Doncaster Social Care Modernisation, Partnership for Carers, Alzheimer’s Society and local cultural and arts project Right Up Our Street.

The event follows a similar health information fair organised by Doncaster 50 Plus in the summer.

Jon Whiteley, head of community development at DCLT, said: “We enjoyed doing our bit at the summer event to help local residents improve their health and believe the Action Against Loneliness fair will be a great way to access, share and promote information on the support available to the over 50s in our region.

“Many older people in Doncaster may be vulnerable to loneliness and it can have a significant knock-on effect on their physical health, so we hope people will come along and find out more about the help and services on offer to help combat the issue.”

The Action Against Loneliness Information Fair will be held in the ballroom of the Mansion House in the town centre on October 17 from 10am until 2pm.
