Entries are now open for this year’s Race For LIfe and women across the borough are being encourgaed to enter.

Fresh from Valentine’s Day, a heartfelt plea is being issued to to make a date to beat cancer by signing up for this year’s five kilometre event which takes place on Sunday, June 28, on Town Field.

Emma Colbourne, Cancer Research UK’s Doncaster events manager, said: “Everyone who takes part in Race for Life, and raises money for life-saving research, will be playing a crucial role in helping more men, women and children survive cancer.

“They will be giving them the chance to have more time with the people they love and to create more precious memories together.”

“Pledging to take part in Race for Life, alongside thousands of like minded women, is incredibly motivating.

“The atmosphere is full of emotion. Participants wear signs on their backs declaring their reasons for taking part.

“Many will be remembering loved ones lost to cancer or celebrating the lives of people dear to them who have survived.”

Last year, 2,000 took part in Race for Life in Doncaster, raising £103,416.

This year, Cancer Rsearch wants at least 2,100 women and girls to stride out. The charity wants to raise a minimum of £123,071 in the non-competitive race, which people can complete through jogging, walking, running or even dancing.

Emma added: “As the cold, days of February drag on, knowing that they’ve signed up to Race for Life could help women feel more inspired to stick to their resolutions to get a little bit fitter in 2015.

“With fire in their bellies and trainers at the ready, we know that women in Doncaster are up for the challenge.”

Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding for its ground-breaking work.
