SPORTING success from The Hayfield School has secured special recognition from the London 2012 Olympics committee.

The Auckley-school has received praise from the very top with congratulations from organising group chairman, Lord Sebastian Coe.

Sue Witherden, one of the teachers who has worked closely on the Olympic project, said: “This was a fantastic day for the school. All Hayfield students have been taking part in a range of activities in the build-up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“A wide variety of work of Olympic themed projects, including writing profiles of favourite athletes in different languages as well as designing posters, merchandise, medals and trophies has brought the Games to life. A visit from the Olympic mascot really is the icing on the cake.”

The school has been selected as the Get Set Network school of the month as a result of a series posts praised as “outstanding” on its school blog.

Wenlock the Olympic mascot took part in sports events at the school, and then went along to a sports presentation evening at the Keepmoat Stadium, where he helped the Hayfield students celebrate their latest sporting achievements.
