Extreme adventurer Bear Grylls, star of the TV series Born Survivor, will make his Sheffield stage debut in the Irwin Mitchell Oval Hall later this month, when he brings his Mud, Sweat and Tears tour to Sheffield City Hall on Friday 25 May 2012.
He’s broken world records for his epic adventures and has gone on to be a global superstar with Born Survivor and a collection of best-selling books. This is his first live tour, telling his most amazing survival stories and bringing some of the wilderness action live to the stage.
The young Bear trained with the British SAS but suffered a horrendous parachuting accident breaking his back in three places. Doctors at the time were not sure he would fully recover, which makes his achievements and passion for the extreme even more remarkable.
Only 18 months after the accident he became the youngest Brit to reach the summit of Everest aged 23, crossed the Atlantic Ocean unassisted in a rigid inflatable boat and flew a powered paraglider over Everest and Angel Falls, the world’s highest waterfall.
He shot to fame with global TV series Born Survivor: Bear Grylls (called Man Vs Wild in the USA and Australia) where the star parachuted into some of the planet’s most inhospitable locations, demonstrating how to survive in unbearable conditions. During the shows he ran through forest fires, crossed dangerous rivers and ate animals (and their parts) for nourishment.
Not satisfied with being a TV talent, Grylls is a best-selling author of 11 books. Four aimed at teenagers and others describing his extraordinary expeditions. His latest autobiography Mud, Sweat and Tears released last year describes his astonishing life, lasting nine weeks in the Sunday Times bestseller list.
This live show is one of only three UK dates and brings tales of adventure to a new level. This inspirational speaker tells stories of his unbelievable experiences, with never before seen footage and rarely demonstrated survival techniques live onstage. The evening will be hosted by Gethin Jones, former presenter of BBC 1’s Blue Peter and Strictly Come Dancing contestant. The show like Grylls himself will defy all expectations.
