WOMEN across Doncaster are invited to ‘join the girls’ and sign up to the UK’s largest women-only fundraiser - Race for Life. Entries are now open for the five kilometre trek that will take place on Town Field in Town Moor on Saturday, June 25, and Sunday, June 26.
Last year Doncaster’s event which was held at the racecourse, the event in Doncaster attracted nearly 4,000 people raising around £150,000.
Organisers are hoping this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.
Natasha Dickinson, Head of Race for Life said women of all ages and fitness abilities can take part in the event.
She added: “Race for Life is something that is emotional and precious to the women who take part as cancer touches the lives of so many people.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re seven or 70; if you want to take part alone or in a group; if you are really fit, or don’t like running at all.
“Race for Life is about all women, coming together, inspiring each other and united for one cause – raising money to beat cancer!”
Since it began in 1994, Race for Life has grown each year and has raised a staggering £362 million towards research into cancer nationwide.
Every summer, hundreds of thousands of amazing women from many walks of life, come together to jog, walk or run to raise money for the charity.
Some of the women who take part in Race for Life are cancer survivors, while other take part to celebrate or remember the lives of family, friends or loved ones.
Cancer Research UK hopes that Race for Life 2011 will surpass the fantastic 690,000 who participated in 2010’s event which raised £60 million nationally. Organisers are encouraging Doncaster women to help contribute to the £80 million target set for this year.
