A PLAN to create 100 new homes may also lead to jobs and apprenticeships for local people.

Jephson Homes housing association have been speaking to Thorne people about creating 111 new properties in Willow Grove,Thorne.

The company set up a stall in Thorne Market, explaining plans to shoppers and asking them for feedback.

The joint venture with Doncaster Council has already been discussed at a community consultation day at Thorne Coronation Club.

Alison Day, Jephson development and property asset manager, said: “It was a really good way of finding out what local people think.

“Both the market stall and the Coronation Club event attracted lots of interest and we found people were really keen to see the area regenerated to provide quality affordable homes.

“Many people had questions to ask and we were able to give assurances that we were not only working in partnership with Doncaster Council and St Leger Homes, but also that the creation of local jobs and apprenticeship opportunities would be high on our agenda for the project and written into our contract requirements.”

Jephson hopes to hand in a planning application this summer and start the project in spring 2012.

Findings from the questionnaires filled out by people at the events will be used in planning consultation with the council.
