Around 320 new jobs are set to be created at both Parkgate and Goldthorpe, as Aldi continues to expand its operations.
Up to 40 posts could come to fruition if a new store at Parkgate gets the go-ahead from Rotherham planners, while a Goldthorpe distribution site, currently under construction, is to create over 280 jobs, comprising warehouse, drivers and office staff, the company has confirmed.
An Aldi spokesperson said: “We are pleased to confirm that we are hoping to open an Aldi store as part of a mixed use retail development at the former car dealership near Parkgate, Rotherham. The store will create up to 40 jobs, with over 100 jobs being created across the whole retail park.
“The proposed store near Parkgate, Rotherham, is part of our expansion into Yorkshire, which also includes our new distribution centre in Goldthorpe that we look forward to opening in 18 months’ time.”
Recycling company Ron Hull teamed up with Leeds-based developers Gregory Projects to bring forward a retail development with 194 parking spaces at Great Eastern Way, Parkgate. An outline planning application has been submitted to Rotherham Council planners.
Aldi’s plans for Goldthorpe include a service station, 180 car spaces and a lorry park along with the main building on the site off Commercial Road.
