A jolly good time was had by all at the closing Jazz into Doncaster Christmas Party night by youthful band Tradtastic and also at the final Monday Date gig of 2011 by The Dickie Emmerson Duo, both of which took place at the Con Club.

York based Tradtastic who are usually a busking band made a big impression on their first visit to an actual Jazz Club, delighting from the start with a spectacular march on plus extra press ganged volunteers who augmented the visiting band on a variety of inflatable instruments along with two brolly dollies, much to the amusement of the receptive audience, followed by a refreshing variety of foot-tapping tunes, including several suitably jazzed up seasonal favourites ( Deck the Halls etc), often deftly switching instruments in versatile fashion throughout the session.

It was great to see such young talented musicians performing Traditional Jazz and hopefully, as they eventually move on to respective colleges and universities, they will help to spread the jazz gospel to other young people like ripples spreading outwards in a pond and who knows, perhaps even initiate a new Jazz Revival. If all goes to plan, Tradtastic will be part of the forthcoming Doncaster Markets Jazz Day in May and will be welcomed back to the Con Club before too long. Also, thanks to Club members Brian and Jean, Jazz committee members and all who generously contributed to the Christmas buffet.

Local treasure Dickie Emmerson, guitar/vocals and piano man Robert Baker also kept the punters happy at their own Con Club Christmas bash ably assisted by Eddie Kell, Johnny Noble, and Bob Quinn, all contributing several well received numbers with Dickie and Robert delighting with swingin’ standards, ballads and seasonal songs, before closing the night in rousing fashion and filling the floor with eager dancers urged on by infectious Rock n’ Roll

The twosome are back in action at the venue on Monday January 9.

The Terry Allonby Trio kick-off their monthly Saturday lunchtime gigs at The Horse & Groom on January 7 (12noon to 3pm) And Jazz into Doncaster start the new year on Thursday January 26 at the Con Club with the popular attraction Winston’s Pennine Jazz followed by The Djangonauts (February 9) and a Special on February 23 when trumpet star Bruce Adams joins forces with the dynamic Eugene Farrar Band Silkstone Lodge, Barnsley have The Yorkshire Stompers Jan 9, Winston’s Pennine Jazz, January 16 and Millennium Eagle Jazz Band January 23, 01226-281805/290105.
