The flag will be raised at the Civic Centre, Scunthorpe, to support Armed Forces Day on Monday by the Mayor of North Lincolnshire, Coun Helen Rowson.

Before the flag raising there will be a parade through Central Park led by the cadet band at 10.15am. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Armed Forces Day flag will fly until Saturday June 28.

The ceremony has been organised for people in North Lincolnshire to celebrate and honour armed forces of the past, present and future.

Coun Helen Rowson will be joined by Gavin Mackay High Sheriff of Lincolnshire (Air Vice Marshall), staff and students from St Hugh’s Specialist College, Simon Driver, Chief Executive of North Lincolnshire Council, and Reverend Jane Whitehead the Mayor’s Chaplain.

There will also be members of North Lincolnshire Council, members of the North Lincolnshire Armed Forces Day Committee, Veteran Associations and members of the Army Reserve and cadet forces attending.

North Lincolnshire’s Armed Forces Day, organised by North Lincolnshire Armed Forces Day Events Committee, will be held at Glanford Park on Sunday June 21.

Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for the nation to show its support for the men and women that make up the armed forces.

This year the National Armed Forces Day event is being held in Guildford on Saturday, June 27.

Coun Helen Rowson said: “I am delighted to be raising the flag for Armed Forces Day in North Lincolnshire. This will mark the start of the celebrations to support our armed forces past, present and future. They do a fantastic job that should be recognised and honoured.

“I’d encourage members of the public to spare some time to show their support for the men and women who make an outstanding contribution to this country - and remember those that did.”
