Isle MP backs post office tax disc campaign

ISLE MP Andrew Percy is backing a campaign by the National Federation of Subpostmasters, to help secure an important DVLA contract which would see Post Offices continue with their contract to provide car tax for the next ten years. If the Post Office secures the contract, it will also mean that the Post Office will find it easier to secure further new government contracts.

Mr Percy said: “I strongly support this campaign and have written to Ministers to urge them to award the contract to the Post Office. I have also received hundreds of campaign postcards from local residents who are also supporting the campaign.

“Sadly, the DVLA has not been able to simply renew their contract with the Post Office due to EU procurement rules which means that the contract has to go through an open tendering process and be advertised to bidders across the EU!

“The last Labour Government closed thousands of Post Offices. The new Government has made clear there will be no more forced closures and instead, we are investing a £1 billion into the network.”

He added: “That doesn’t mean that Post Offices do not face challenges which is why it is important we all do what we can to support them. I did my bit this month by buying my car tax at the Post Office in Crowle rather than online.”
