Dancers from the Isle are preparing to compete for a top spot in a regional youth project.
Street Beat, under the directorship of Epworth’s Kim Oakley, have been selected by Yorkshire Dance as one of only ten companies to be part of the Dance Whispers Project.
Dance Whispers is a regional youth dance project which provides support, mentoring and inspiration to young people.
Kim explained: “Street Beat has been asked to identify and nominate one individual within their group who demonstrates choreographic potential.
“This individual will then receive training and mentoring by Joss Arnott.
“The selected individual will also have two all expenses paid training days in London at Sadlers Wells where they will work with National Youth Dance Company ‘buddies’ (each dancer will be paired with a NYDC member) and for them to see NYDC in their devising with Sidi Larbiwith.
“They will then have the opportunity to showcase their work in a professional venue in July.”
An ‘in house’ choreography platform is being held for members in February/early March. The winner will be nominated for Dance Whispers.
The winner will also receive a trophy and cash prize.
