AROUND 500 pupils, parents, teachers, volunteers and even the grandparents got involved in their own version of a well-known race to raise thousands of pounds for cancer.

Owston Park Primary School staged its own version of the Race for Life, usually covering a 5k distance.

Fundraisers ran, jogged and walked from the school’s grounds in Lodge Road, Skellow, for the charity event which helped raise £3,000 for leading charity Cancer Research UK.

Simon Fox, deputy headteacher at the primary school, was delighted with how many people took part after originally expecting around 350 participants.

He said: “May I take this opportunity to thank the wonderful parents, children and friends of Owston Park Primary School.

“I wish all those who took part a well-deserved summer holiday and wish all the year sixes who are leaving us, a brilliant future. Many thanks to them all for making this event a massive success.”
