South Yorkshire Police are continuing to investigate the shooting from last Thursday on Doncaster Road, in Wath-upon-Dearne.
Forty-two-year-old, Tyrone Woodhead, remains in a local hospital and his condition today, is described as life-threatening but stable. He sustained a single gun shot wound to his upper body.
His attacker is still at large.
A fire was reported to emergency services at 4.35am this morning, Monday, September 24, on Doncaster Road in Wath-upon-Dearne, in a garage at the back the property where the shooting took place. The garage was left with extensive fire damage.
Police are not linking the fire to the shooting, although the cause of the fire is thought to be suspicious and is being investigated.
At around 8.40pm last Thursday the ambulance service received reports of a man with a gunshot wound and emergency services attended.
Detectives investigating the incident believe it was an isolated targeted attack.
Police are appealing for people who were in the Doncaster Road area between 8.15pm and 9pm on Thursday to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1146 of 20 September, if they have seen anything suspicious. Alternatively witnesses can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
The road has now been opened but the scene remains cordoned off.
