A SWINTON nursing home has been renamed to reflect its long heritage following talks with local historians.
Swinton Hall Nursing Home was rebranded Swinton Grange after Swinton councillor Ken Wyatt and a group of heritage enthusiasts visited the home to discuss the matter with management.
The Station Street building has a long history as a doctor’s residence, surgery and at one time dispensary.
Partners Saleem Hasan, and Nadim Admani of Hermes Care purchased the former Cliffield House last year and have invested over £1million completely refurbishing the building to bring it up to standard.
Mr Hasan said “Our aim is to be part of the community where we and our staff work. Swinton Grange is a name which will suit our needs and a grange is the old name for a house with outbuildings.”
Local historian Giles Brearley added: “We are working with the new owners to celebrate the history of the building.
“Many people, including me, remember the property being the home of Dr Campbell, a popular GP who was rewarded for his heroism helping out in mining and railway accidents.”
