CUSTOMERS were evacuated from Doncaster’s biggest shopping centre after fierce winds brought disruption to the borough.
The blustery conditions made the Frenchgate Centre roof unsafe and bosses had to evacuate hundreds of shoppers amid fears parts could fall off.
Police cordoned off the area around the shopping centre, including St Sepulchre Gate, Baxter Ggate and part of High Street, as much of the town centre was brought to a standstill.
A number of shocked shoppers were also troubled at the Asda store in Gliwice Way after part of the supermarket’s distinctive apex collapsed into the entrance foyer.
But the store remained open for business with customers instead using the second entrance at the George side of the store.
The structure of Park Hill Hospital in the grounds of Doncaster Royal Infirmary has also been damaged.
